Official rules for 2017 CR Best awards

What products can I nominate?

Products nominated for the 2017 Christian Retailing's Best awards must have been released and on sale in stores in 2016, with the exception of nominations in the Backlist category. Products not sold in stores cannot be entered.

Each product is to be entered in one category only. The First-Time Authors category encompasses authors who have never been published, not published for the first time with their current publisher. All Spanish-language products are to be entered in the Spanish category. All audio products are to be entered under Audio.

Nominations must include clear Christian content, message or worldview. In the Gift categories, "inspirational" items not specifically Christian will be considered, although those contrary to orthodox Christianity will be excluded. Companies who pay entry fees for products that are not accepted will receive their fees back in full.

How much does it cost to nominate?

Nomination fee is $60 per nominated item. Those nominating (authors, public relations firms, publishers and other suppliers) may take advantage of the Early Bird discount (ends Feb 13). For every five products entered by the Early Bird deadline, a sixth product may be entered for free.

Payment must be made either by credit card online (at the time of nomination) or by submitting a check. Those entering also will be invoiced. If payment was not made for the previous year's nomination(s), we (Charisma Media) will only accept 2017 nominations if the account is made good.

What happens if there aren't enough entries in a category I entered?

We reserve the right to revise or eliminate categories after the nomination period has ended. If a particular category is deemed to have too few products entered, suppliers will be contacted to move their products to another appropriate category, and the category with too few nominations will be closed. If there is not an appropriate category available, the product will not be entered.

How are the winners determined?

After the nominations are in, Christian retailers and others who work or volunteer in the Christian products industry—including authors, publishers, literary agents, gift company employees, book packagers and church bookstore volunteers—are invited to vote. Voting is not open to the general public. Nominating companies shall not canvass for votes.

Voting will be conducted using an online ballot. Products are to be judged on their impact, including their ability to:

  • speak to people's hearts and evoke emotion
  • open people's minds to new ways of thinking
  • encourage and affirm Christlike living

Christian retailers' votes will be weighted to maximize their impact.

Information about the winners' presentation will be announced at a later date.
